PHYSICAL TRAINING AND SPORT
38
Compulsory medical examination of students has clearly revealed e necessity for organized classes in physical training and athletics. A director would have charge of the Gymnasium and the proposed swimming bath, and be responsible for all sports coaching. The present athletic field has always been inadequate for cricket and football and hockey.
It is recommended that pre-war part-time arrangements for physical instruction be abandoned, and a full-time expatriate Director of Physical Education bo appointed with the status of Lecturer. It is also recommended that provision be made for extension of the present playing field or alternative accommodation.
9. THE DUNCAN SLOSS SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND ARCHITECTURE
This building is already erected and in use. It is recommended that financial assistance be sought to the amount of 1/3 the cost of the building and furniture and a sum for founding a library of Architecture.
Two floors of the building are to be counted as re-establishment of space lost by conversion of the old Hydraulics Laboratory into servants' quarters, and the destruction of an Engineering Building to the rear of the Main Building, and funds have been allotted under a Re-establishment head. The third floor is allocated to a new Department of Architecture, and its cost cannot therefore be borne from re-establishment funds.
